The Department of PG Studies in Agadatantra, KVG Ayurveda Medical College, organized a workshop titled “Naagayanam” on the occasion of World Snake Day on 16th July 2026 to create awareness about snakes, their ecological importance, and the scientific management of snakebite.
The programme commenced with the inauguration by Dr. Leeladhar D. V., Principal, KVG Ayurveda Medical College, sullia. The event was compered by Ms. Chandana and Ms. Kasturi, followed by an invocation prayer by Ms. Neelima and team.The Welcome Address was delivered by Dr. Avinash K. V., Professor & Head, Department of Agadatantra, who welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, students, and participants. This was followed by the Presidential Address by Dr. Leeladhar D. V., who emphasized the importance of snake conservation, public awareness, and evidence-based management of snakebite.
The scientific session featured an insightful guest lecture by Mr. Prashanth Krishna M. C. on the topic “Beyond the Bites.” The session provided valuable information on snake identification, the ecological significance of snakes, common myths and misconceptions, preventive measures against snakebite, first aid, and the latest evidence-based management of snakebite cases. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer interaction, during which students and faculty actively clarified their doubts with the resource person.
As part of the World Snake Day celebrations, various competitions, including Essay Writing and Face Painting, were conducted to encourage creativity and promote awareness regarding snake conservation among students.
A thought-provoking skit was presented by the students of Batch Samanvaya 2024-25, highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation and demonstrating the appropriate first aid measures and treatment for snakebite victims.
The Valedictory Function was graced by Dr. Rajashekar, Professor & Head, Department of Dravyaguna, Dr. Sanath Kumar D. G., Professor & Head, Department of Panchakarma, Mr. Prashanth Krishna M. C., Guest Speaker, and Dr. Avinash K. V., Professor & Head, Department of Agadatantra, along with faculty members and students.
During the valedictory programme, Mr. Prashanth Krishna M. C. was felicitated by the dignitaries as a token of appreciation for his valuable contribution to the workshop.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Essay Writing and Face Painting competitions. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Harshavardhan B., Associate Professor, Department of Agadatantra, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, participants, students, and the organizing committee for their enthusiastic support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success.
The workshop concluded successfully with active participation from faculty and students. The programme served as a meaningful initiative in promoting wildlife conservation and public health awareness on the occasion of World Snake Day.
