EDUCATIONAL EXCURSION FOR 2ND YEAR B.A.M.S FROM DEPARTMENT OF RS & BK from 05.10.2025 to 09.10.2025

An educational excursion for 2nd year UG Students of K.V.G. Ayurveda Medical College, Sullia was organized by Dept. of RS & BK as a part of their academic curriculum. A four day tour was planned to Kottakkal, Coimbatore, Ooty, Nanjangud and Mysore from 05/10/2025 to 09/10/2025. There were 72 students accompanied by 7 PG Scholars, 2 Teaching staffs and 1 Non teaching staff.

We started our journey on 05/10/2025 at 9 pm from Sullia towards Kottakkal. On 06/10/2025, first we visited Vaidyaratnam P.S.Warrier Museum, Kottakkal. The museum depicts the history and milestones of Arya Vaidya Sala with beautiful presentation of life of the great personality Vaidyaratnam P.S. Warrier and his contribution to the field of Ayurveda. Next we visited Arya Vaidya Sala Herbal Garden, Kottakkal which had around 1000 species of medicinal plants cultivated over 6 acres of land. Then we moved to Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal, the manufacturing unit of Ayurvedic medicines. There we got an opportunity to visualize different preparations on Ayurvedic medicines like Tailas, lehyas, Kashayas and Tablets. There were several electro- mechanical equipments employed in the manufacturing units. The unique preparation which we visualized was preparation of Aja mamsa rasa for Ajashwagandhadhi lehya. Later we travelled towards Palakkad.

On 07/10/2025, first we visited Arya Vaidya Pharmacy, Kanjikode, Palakkad. Students were oriented about the manufacturing processes of classical Ayurvedic formulations like Kashayas, Asavas, Arishtas, Churnas, Tailas, Ghritas and Lehyas. Detailed explanations were provided regarding raw material procurement, authentication, standard operating procedures and storage practices. Later we visited Center for Indian Medical Heritage, a 14 acre Herbal garden at AVP campus. It is a medicinal plant conservation park having good number of plants conserving around 500 species of medicinal plants. It is having a nursery for propagation studies and for raising sapling, green houses which house endangered and rare species for demonstration and training. Further our journey began towards Coimbatore. We first visited ISHA Yoga Centre, Coimbatore. The majestic Adiyogi Statue situated in this place is so graceful. Sacred spaces such as the Dhyanalinga and Linga Bhairavi, provide an ideal environment for silence, meditation and self-reflection.We were also able to visualize audio-visual laser show projected on the Adiyogi statue blending narration and visuals about yoga’s origins, was a memorable experience. Then we left towards Ooty, the Queen of Hill stations.

Next morning, the 3rd day of our i.e on 8/10/2025, we visited Karnataka Siri Horticulture Garden. The garden showcases a rich variety of ornamental plants, flowering species and well-maintained lawns arranged in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Then we moved to Ooty Botanical Garden where different species of plants, herbs, shrubs, ferns and flowers are exhibited. An opportunity to visit the Tea factory and Chocolate factory located in the town where processing of tea leaves can be witnessed was a beautiful experience.

On the last day of our tour we departed from Ooty towards Nanjangud. There we visited “Arya Vaidya Sala, Nanjangud”- An another manufacturing unit of Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal where new generation formulations like color coated tablets, granules, gels, liniments are manufactured. There we got to learn about the working of sophisticated modern equipments and preparation of newer dosage forms. Later we moved to Mysore and visited KRS Dam and further we departed back to Sullia and reached by 12 AM at midnight.

Overall it was a memorable trip with lot of experiences, knowledge, relaxation and enjoyment.
