A Three-day training programme titled “Workshop on Scientific Writing, Research Integrity and Publication Ethics”, initiated and sponsored by NCISM, New Delhi with the Objective of Capacity Building for the P.G. Guides, was held at KVG Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Sullia, from 10th to 12th June 2024.

“Workshop on Scientific Writing, Research Integrity and Publication Ethics”, initiated and sponsored by NCISM, New Delhi for the P.G guides, was organised at KVG Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Sullia, from 10th to 12th June 2024.

10 master trainers were invited to conduct the workshop and among 60 delegates who registered from various institutions, 57 delegates actively participated in the workshop.

Workshop proceedings are as follows:

Day 1 – 10th June 2024

Delegate registration was followed by an inaugural function presided by Dr K V Chidananda, President, Academy of Liberal Education, Sullia. The chief guests were Dr Aishwarya K C, Secretary, Academy of Liberal Education, Sullia, Senate Member RGUHS, and Dr Ganesh Puttur, Professor and HOD, Department of Panchakarma, Sri Sri College of Ayurvedic Science and Research, Bangalore, Chairman BOS Ayurveda P.G, RGUHS.  The gathering was warmly welcomed by Dr Leeladhar D V, Principal. The inauguration function was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr Kavitha B M, Coordinator of the workshop.

The workshop began with the pre- test followed by introduction of the delegates.

The training started with the 1st and 2nd session conducted by Dr. Prathibha CK, Professor, Dept. of Panchakarma, GS Ayurveda Medical College, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, On the topics Scientific Publications: why, when and how? With an overview on Scientometrics- How to select a journal? and on how to Draft an original article on clinical study.

The session was followed by lunch.

3rd and 4th session was conducted by Dr. Asha S A, Associate Professor, Dept. of Swasthavritta, SJGAMC, Koppal, Karnataka, on the topics Study Design & Ethical Issues in Health Research and Methodology.

5th and 6th session was conducted by Dr K Nalina Saraswathi, Government Siddha Medical College, Arumbakkam, Chennai on the topics Results- Understanding Data Type & Data Presentation Methods and Analysing and Interpreting Data- Descriptive and Inferential Statistics.

There were a total of 6 sessions on day 1 by 3 master trainers.

Day 2- 11th June 2024-  Included 8 sessions by 4 master trainers.

Dr Aisha Anjum A, Professor and HOD, Department of Ilmul Qabalat Wa Amraze Niswan, Department of Ilmul Jarahat, Government Unani Medical College, Bangalore,Karnataka,  conducted the sessions 7 and 8 on the topics Essential Components of Research Article and Drafting Drug Research Based Original Article.

Dr Mohammed Maqbool Hussain, Associate Professor, and HOD, PG Department of Tahaffuziwa, Samaji Tib Government Nizamia Tibbia College, Hyderabad, Telangana, conducted sessions 9 and 10 on topics Drafting Literary Research Article and Tips for Translating Thesis into Article.

In the post lunch Dr Renuka Tenahalli, Professor and HOD, A V Samiti’s Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Bijapur, Karnataka, conducted sessions 11 and 12 on topics Reporting Guidelines and Writing a Review.

Dr Sumant Moreshwar Pande, Associate Professor, Department of Roga Nidana, Mahatma Gandhi Ayurveda College,Wardha, Maharashtra, conducted sessions 13 and 14 on the topics Case Report or Series and Research Integrity and Publication Ethics,  Scientific Misconduct.

Day 3 – 12th June 2024 had 6 sessions by 3 master trainers.

Session 15 and 16 on the topics What Makes a Good Discuss? And Preparing an Abstract was conducted by Dr Reetesh Verma, Assistant professor, Government Autonomous Ayurveda College, Madhya pradesh.

Session17 on the topic References: Citing Styles and Management Systems. Session 18 on topic Overview of Other Publication Types was Conducted by Dr Mithila Amin, Associate Professor, Department of Kaumarabrithya, D Y Patil School of Ayurveda, Navi Mumbai.

Lunch was followed by Session 19 and 20 on topics Overcoming language barrier and to Know the editorial process was conducted by Dr Mohammed Aleemuddin Quamri, Professor and HOD, Amraze Jild Wa Tazeeniyat, Moalijat National Institute of Unani Medicine, Bangalore, Karnataka. After completion of all the sessions the Delegates attended post-test, filled the feedback form and downloaded the E-Certificate from the AYUSH grid portal.

At the end of workshop valedictory function was organised. This function was presided by Dr K V Chidananda, President, Academy of Liberal Education, Sullia. The guests of the function were Mrs Shobha Chidananda, Vice President, Academy of Liberal Education, Sullia and Dr C Ramachandra Bhat, Medical Superintendent, KVG Medical College, Sullia. Dr Leeladhar D V, Principal, KVGAMCH, welcomed the gathering and Dr Kavitha B M, Coordinator of workshop delivered the vote of thanks.
